The world is a fragile environment and we are citizens who live in this ecosystem.

We need to use resources that can be replenished and do not contaminate the environment.  It is each of our individual duties to DO THE BEST WE CAN. We only need to take one small step, such as one less plastic bag per week.  Creating an environmentally friendly green world is essential to having a healthy place to live and a future planet for our children.

Think about using one less plastic bag a week per person while shopping at the grocery store.  That is 52 bags a year for every person in the U.S, currently 303,824,640 people as of July 2008. If a bag weighs ½ an ounce, one less bag per week would eliminating 987,430,080 pounds of plastic from our landfills every year. That is 493,715 TONS of garbage that will take about 100 years to decompose, so in just 10 years we save over 9 BILLION pounds or 4.9 million TONS of plastic from shopping bags. OUCH!

We only need to take one small step at a time—like using one less plastic bag per week—to make a huge positive impact on our environment. This is not our local home, but rather the world we live in.
