Day 2 – The Puppy Poop Composter Project
Apr 9th, 2009 by Greenist
The first green project is to build a puppy poop waste compost system to help protect the environment. The goal is to get rid of needing the garbage can and plastic bags used through the year to store the puppy poop. Plastic is estimated at 100 years to decompose and the poop stinks.
The boss, my wife, said that I was authorized to trade the can and bags for an in ground composter. The advantages are that I only need a small amount of Septic Starter, a garbage can and some stones as the raw material.
The sweat equity has several small parts.
- Drill the can full of holes in the sides, cut out most of the bottom.
- Dig a hole big enough for the can and stones up the side for drainage.
- Put the stones in the bottom of the hole.
- Set the can into the hole.
- Fill the sides with the rest of the stones.
- Drop some poop into the can.
- Pour the starter into the hole.
- Add the appropriate amount of water.
- Put the lid on and wait two days.
That’s all there is to this project.
The next few entries will detail the project with pictures and status reports. If all goes well, this weekend will be the start and end of the project.
See you next time.
